How We Assist Feral Cats

Rehabilitation

The other approach to saving a feral cat is rehabilitation. It isn’t popular with the TNR folks, because it requires taking each cat into your home and rehabilitation does not scale well; you can do only one or two cats at a time … and it takes a very long time. There are far more cats in need than there are people willing to give the time and treasure that is required to do rehab. This approach comes with the requirement that you develop some cat savvy and you are definitely making a long term commitment. You must be willing to make one or more cats (kittens come in groups) absolutely integral to your life for as long as three years. Rehab is not for the faint of heart. It is expensive, it can be dangerous and it requires an immense amount of patience. You need some space too, optimally close to the central crossroads of your home. These cats need to see you and hear you continuously. The best environment too, is a calm one.
