Why We Are Catholic (partially read)

Trent Horn

Copyright 2017

Catholic Answers Press

El Cajon, CA

Reader’s Notes: Up through about page 55, and maybe 74, this book could be entitled “Why We Are Christians. Those pages are a good read. Beyond that, it begins to defend the Catholic faith and somewhere on this site, we will talk about denominations; but not now.  That portion of Horn’s book did not merit “reading time” in this busy year. I did, however, grasp an important concept while reading the first chapters of this book, “God is 100% spirit” … it follows that we are a duality, the physical me and the spiritual me … it is our spirit that is eternal.  A spirit God undertaking creation of a very physical universe is challenging to contemplate.

Jesus, The God Who Knows Your Name

Max Lucado

Copyright 2020

Nelson Books, Memphis TN

Reader’s Notes: A quick read. Some unique perspectives. Very contemporary.

the New International Version (NIV) Bible

I and II Samuel, I and II Kings and much of the new testament in the New International Version of the Bible. It provides important to have some insight into the history of Israel and the lineage of Jesus. The story of David cast much light on my own life. Perhaps the vengeful God of the old testament still operates that way today, in addition to having made provisions for His Grace.
